Frequently asked questions.
Buying, leasing, commissioning and submitting big art — the questions we are asked most.
What counts as “big” art?
There is no hard rule, but we focus on works that read as a statement in a large space — generally from around 1.5 metres on a side, up to several metres, plus freestanding sculpture of real presence. If you are not sure whether a piece or a wall qualifies, just ask.
Do you deliver and install?
Yes. Large work needs proper handling, so we arrange crating, transport, rigging and hanging worldwide, and de-installation for leased works. It is part of what we do — not an afterthought.
What is the difference between buying and leasing?
Buying means you own the work outright. Leasing means you pay to display a work (or a rotating collection) for a period — popular with hotels, offices and developments that want to keep a space fresh without a capital purchase. Lease terms are arranged per work and space.
How does art leasing work, and is it a good idea?
You lease a work for an agreed term and fee, and can often rotate or buy it out later. Whether it suits you depends on your space, goals and finances — we will give straight advice, but we are art specialists, not financial, tax or accounting advisers, so please get your own advice on the financial treatment.
Do you work internationally?
Yes — we place and install work worldwide, and can coordinate with your designers, architects or builders. Most first conversations happen by email, call or from plans and photos.
How do artists get paid?
When a work sells or leases, the artist is paid their agreed share. With leasing, the same work can earn more than once over time. Terms are set out in a plain-English agreement before anything is listed.
Is it free for artists to submit?
Yes. There is no fee to submit and no listing fee. Original Big Art earns an agreed commission only when your work actually sells or leases — never an upfront charge.
Who keeps the copyright?
The artist always retains copyright. We only use your images to assess and market the work, with your permission; we never reproduce or licence the work without your agreement.
Do you guarantee my work will sell or lease?
No, and be cautious of anyone who does. We are honest about fit, scale and timing, and we present accepted works professionally — but the market decides. Submitting is not a guarantee of representation, sale or lease.
Can you commission a work for a specific space?
Yes. Tell us the wall, the palette, the medium and the budget, and we will brief and manage an artist to create a bespoke piece at the right scale.
Is the artwork insured in transit and on lease?
Insurance is arranged appropriately for transport and for leased works, and the details are set out per project. Owners are advised on covering purchased works under their own policy.
Are the artworks on the site real?
The works shown on this demonstration site are illustrative placeholders — indicative titles, artists, dimensions and prices. The real collection and imagery would replace them on the live site.
